A Letter to Kansas City

I’m Chad Grittman, and I’m running to serve you on City Council in 2027, representing the 6th District At-Large. I believe the strength of our Kansas City community is shaped by the places we make. My campaign is all about building a Kansas City that works better for people, with streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces that bring us together and make our communities stronger.

Born from deep community roots and shaped by my work in service and the nonprofit sector, I’ve spent my career working to connect—between opportunity, policy, and people. I’ve become a student of what works, what doesn’t, and more importantly, what could be.

We’re enjoying an era of growth in KC. But too often, our growth has been uneven. Some benefit, while many don't. That growth has spread us away from each other and made it harder to care for our city and our neighbors. We pave over connection in favor of convenience. But, it doesn’t have to be that way…

We can—and must—build a better Kansas City.

I’m aspiring for more- where our neighborhoods are stitched together by sidewalks and small businesses, where our growth happens in a way that brings us together.

That means:

Embracing reforms that grow our city with resilience, responsibly.

Making room for housing that adds affordability and character.

Activating empty or abandoned lots, building back the vitality our city once enjoyed.

Building transit-oriented, welcoming neighborhoods that bring folks closer to jobs, schools, parks, and each other.

Reclaiming our streets as places to enjoy, not just pass through.

And designing with more care for people, not just cars.

This isn’t about nostalgia or trendy urban planning buzzwords. It’s about common sense. It’s about creating a Kansas City that works for everyone—whether you’ve lived here your whole life or just moved in (if so, welcome!).

It’s about more than just roads and buildings. It’s about connection. It’s about dignity. It’s about creating a city where kids can safely bike to school, businesses can thrive and feel supported, people can depend on reliable transit, and every resident has a strong neighborhood. It's about hope for a stronger, more connected Kansas City.

Let’s build a city where people don’t just live—but love where they live. Let’s think forward. Build smart. And grow together.

With Great Hope,

Chad Grittman
Candidate for KC City Council
